After quite a rough ride, I am now hoping to clear my terrifying debts, create a good home for myself, build a new career doing work I enjoy, get over my depression and maybe even develop a happy relationship with a nice man! Do I stand a chance of succeeding, or should I just run & hide on a faraway beach?

The answer is the first of the two you suggested — you can succeed.
Consider that your heart enjoys taking charge of projects, to outline what needs to be done and either do it yourself or have others do it with your guidance (espeically projects that help people).

In fact, some were quite welcome. And today you sometimes find yourself anticipating new experiences with a smile.
