So let me continue the example and suggest that if you have strong legs and good feet and would enjoy a waiter position in a restaurant, then pick a very busy time for the restaurant you would like to work for (having noticed the work flow during a prior visit), and without necessarily getting permission from management just proceed to help clean tables, seat customers, keep the coffee urns filled in the waiter food pickup/prep area, bring clean dishes forward from the dishwashing area, and do any supporting actions you can without getting in the way of the help rushing about serving people.
