Will the relationship with my husband work out?
We have been having problems in our marriage, and have been together for 17 years. We have 2 children, and the idea of leaving him isn't a favorable one. But I am not happy and things are not going to change. And to complicate matters, a new person has come into my life, one I care a great deal for. I am confused, I need to know if my relationship with my husband will work out, was it meant to be?

Your husband has a need to take care of a family, to be its protector, which might express itself in a somewhat dictatorial manner, especially if religion is involved. He also has a strong desire to experience everything life has to offer.
You, on the other hand, are creative and, while protection of family is important, yearn for a more rounded relationship.
If you are not happy and things are not going to change, then plan for the separation and follow through. You have the wherewithall to pay attention to details with an eye to the future and you have the ability to see things and situations with a wholistic point of view.
It is unkind to force children to live within the confines of an unhappy relationship.
